RE: Mixer Reunion...
Incidentally, Tiki, they had a huge chat with all the "non-regulars" and we had a lot of fun games. The only issue was a single guy who refused to put down the chaingun, but to be honest, he had good reason. Our Juggs were annihilating their flagstand. I actually had some very fun and enjoyable games, and they were very close. It was like, what, 10v10+? We then scrimmed against the CAS team, we won by 1 Wink

It seems like people need a damn guide for when using a chain is acceptable and when you're being a douchebag... I honestly thought it was pretty self-evident. Problem isn't chaining, it's people being dicks about it and using nothing but chain; acting like it's a damn TDM server.

Just makes me sad that "don't be a dick" it too difficult of a concept for some people to grasp. Guess I'm too much of an old fart. Tongue

I share your sentiments JM, and also yours Tiki. The chain gun (and the .ini's) is/are the main reason I don't play T:A much anymore...I look forward to the reunion...oh btw...ran into Dafiz on Axxon Saturday night, he's been "into" a new game...don't remember which one it is...but said he had been thinking about stopping by the Mixer again. RE: Mixer Reunion...
Lets ban all the children. It's not a problem with weapon selection. It's a complex cultural problem. We are now getting the fucking assclowns from their make believe tribes league. I'm still trying to figure out if the rules they "compete" with is technically tribes...wait no i'm not...its not tribes.

We used to be a group of TRIBES players.

Imamoth and potty should be banned with prejudice for spying on us sat morning in ts3 and communicating else where with smurfs in game trolling us.

in fact if I get them to admit it I'm banning them, period. Crap anyone who disagrees. Ban me if you don't like it.

This is the type of people we've allowed in.

It has destroyed what once was.

It doesn't mean mixers can't be fun.

It means to enjoy mixers you have to accept that over 1/2 the community are now Crap face trolls that don't deserve to play tribes. They have no honor.

Long live Tribes and the vets.

I only hope our legacy isn't destroyed and misconstrued because of these honorless peons.

RE: Mixer Reunion...
Now in hindsight it looks like I and we needed to be pickier inviting people. Someone might be a great team player and everything in-game but be different on voice.

Probably should do something like make a post on forum saying if there is a specific player you are interested in inviting and then give people a week to give input on whether they should or shouldn't be invited. That way we can tell if anyone doesn't get along with someone or knows more about them there's a period we can veto them.

We had the talk a year ago about trying to have house rules and came to the conclusion you can't expect people to follow them. This last Saturday proved this. What annoyed me more than the enemy going doombringer defense with chaingun was our own team complaining about autos half the time. And also the enemy team complaining about too many juggernauts. Sadly the way the game is balanced autos are made for killing heavies. So if you make autos taboo heavies will destroy you as we saw Saturday. Zyphon said something like "limit auto usage" but maybe should have said people with magic chain/all .ini'd up aren't welcome instead.

On the bright side, hopefully these last couple of weeks have scared off some of the ini/magic chain auto whores as they get tired of being whined at.

I propose we compromise and do something like ban the high-damage variants of the autos and shotgun and then not allow any more complaining about autos or any other weapon. As long as it's not banned it's fair play and you can't bellyache about it. We won't invite people whose play style we don't care for. There were inevitably sometimes be chainwhores but we can outsmart or outnumber them easily enough so they're not that big of a deal. I'll happily train anyone who needs help learning to avoid them as well. I think banning the high damage variants will take a tiny bit of the sting out of the auto whores but past that people need to learn to adapt. If you're getting spammed by heavies in a big game, maybe not use a HoF? DURRRR. If you're getting killed too fast by defenders tell the team captain and we can switch you to another role or go ourselves to back you up. We can find ways where everyone has fun just communicate!

RE: Mixer Reunion...
I think many of the problems go away by simply limiting the amount of people in the game (Personally I like 10v10 or 11v11) at 14v14 some stuff kinda breaks down.

Maybe we should add an actual screening process instead of just letting new people in every week? I know when I originally joined the mixers I had been playing with Clide and Check for the better part of a month. Not really suggesting we need a month of vetting new people but I think a few rounds would be nice... Or perhaps have them be sponsored? So people will be a little bit more selective about who gets invited. I dunno I'm just throwing ideas out there.

I don't think banning certain variants will really fix anything. At least for me, I'm not annoyed that it's the Gast rifle killing me, I'm annoyed that there's 3+ douchebags waiting to chain; do nothing but chain every time I leave the damn base. That's not even when I'm capping, that's when I'm playing general offense. When I'm capping chain might annoy me and seem excessive, I might bitch about it but it's all frustration, I don't expect anyone to stop chaining the capper.

When I'm literally being followed base to base as an HO, multiple times... That's when you're being a douchebag. When there's 3 people chaining people that are SPAWNING you're not helping your team ANYWHERE near as much as you're just pissing people off. Both of those are real examples from a mixer, and shit that shouldn't be happening. I think that's more a result of who's there versus what weapons they're using.

I just want people to remember it's capture the flag and it's a TEAM game. Do things that relate to the FLAG and help your TEAM... Not deathmatch in the middle of the freakin' map that's why TDM and Arena exist. The purpose of the mixer is to have fun with friends not to piss off as many people as possible so you can satisfy your e-penis needs.

And sorry for derailing the thread Blush

RE: Mixer Reunion...
All great ideas and it's sad that we had to have games like those last Saturday.

I agree with Tiki's idea of "The Great Purge", and several others about vetting players before allowing them to join. Also, limiting team sizes is necessary, even on larger maps. We use to have casters and spectators during games and I never minded sitting a few games as necessary.

2/22 Mixer - Reboot:
1. Change the pw (again) on the Cygnus server
2. Set a pw on the TS to keep out trolls
3. Decide if there is anyone else outside the group I listed that we would like to invite.

3/1 Mixer - Reunion:
See if all the old-timers want to come out and play

Thoughts?
